Zanzibar: The Latest Destination for Remote Companies and Workers

For many of us, remote work means working from the kitchen one day, a nearby cafe on another, and sometimes… a different country. And who can say no to working from the calm beaches of Zanzibar?

Many companies let you work from anywhere, boosting employee satisfaction and productivity for companies. But I don’t need to preach to you about the benefits that remote work brings do I?!

But work from anywhere can be a tough place to get to. There are legal and tax huddles to overcome.

Digital nomad visas are one way to overcome these, another is to give people a taste to move somewhere new (and exotic) for a period of time.

Zanzibar is one of those places! They’re offering work visas for relocating teams and corporate tax exemption. Hurrah!

Why Zanzibar is the latest destination for you

Located off the Tanzanian coast, Zanzibar island group is becoming popular among remote workers who need a reliable internet connection, visas, expat community, and places to explore.

Why Zanzibar, you ask – the Zanzibar Ministry of Investment and Economic Development’s latest move to position the main island a tech hub. In addition to offering work visas for relocating tech workers, the government is exempting companies from corporate tax for 10 years.

Wasoko founder Daniel Yu announced relocating to Zanzibar with many team members and said that this initiative will boost African innovation. Wasoko is a founding partner of Silicon Zanzibar, a step in promoting the islands as a destination for tech companies and their teams.

Can you work from Zanzibar?

Certainly. After all, not many can say no to turquoise waters as their office and a stroll on the beach as their commute.

Zanzibar has a lot to offer – tourism, friendly locals, aromatic spices, fine beaches and a budding tech environment. All at an affordable cost of living. It has a unique blend of calm and adventure that makes it an ideal destination for working and exploring the island’s rich history.

Our suggestion – go for it!

As a remote worker, you need a reliable internet connection and an expat community to talk with. The government’s latest step is going to boost tech relocation and tourism on the Zanzibar islands.

If your’re looking for a work from anywhere job, Zanzibar is a great new place to move your desk to!
