Not getting job interviews? Stop applying! ❌
Have you sent lots of job applications with few or no interviews?
STOP APPLYING!
Seriously.
If you’ve been looking for a few months now you’re probably pretty discouraged and your confidence has taken a big dip.
What’s wrong with me? Why does nobody want to hire me?
The problem isn’t YOU, they don’t even know you- you’re just a name on a screen- it’s not personal.
They’re just not seeing what you think you’re showing them.
Take a step back- slow down.
Look back at your CV/ Resume, then the job you’re applying to and put yourself in the recruiter’s shoes. Pretend you don’t know yourself and what you’ve done and can do. Is it obvious why you’re applying and more importantly, is it clear why you’re a good match for the role?
No?
Pretend that the person reading your application is either:
Stupid
New to the job
Really busy
Lazy
Or a combo of all 4 (I’m not saying they are by the way)
Spell it out. Make it clear in the first half page of your resume why you match the job and be sure to add a personalised cover letter to say what attracted you to this job and company and why you’d be a great match.
Speak their language- use the terms they use, where relevant, and match their tone (eg. formal, informal).
And lastly- please remember that it’s not a numbers game, rather than sending out 20 applications a week, send 5 and make them count!
