Is job hopping preventing you from getting a job?
Job hopping - or moving too soon from one job to another - used to be a big no-no. But what is considered job hopping anyway? And is it good or bad?
Staying at a few jobs for less than one to two years may lead to a “job hopper” label. However, there is actually no standard number of positions in a given period of time that puts you in that category.
Of course, some recruiters and hiring managers will always have an unfavourable view of job hopping, but it is true that people are increasingly changing jobs more frequently.
Job hopping is neither good nor bad. Perceptions are finally changing!
Job hopping is particularly common among Millennials and Gen Z is likely to follow the same path. Rather than following traditional career paths, they are willing to give up everything to pursue the life and job of their dreams! And why shouldn't they? STOP fitting your life around your job and land a remote job that fits YOUR lifestyle!
If you are looking for more flexibility, it is totally fine to switch jobs. No matter what generation you belong to, you can demand more than a 9-5 job.
As long as you find a way to reframe ‘job hopping’ as a positive step in your career, it is perfectly fine. For example, you can explain on your application what skills you acquired at each job, why you switched jobs and even how you plan to stay committed to a workplace that shares your values.
But hey if you don’t know how to do this, don’t worry. I can help you! I have a coaching programme to expedite landing a remote job... and an online course coming soon!
