Why a cover letter is essential when applying for a remote job

Cover letters are a great way to tell a story and differentiate yourself from other candidates. They add colour that can be missing from a resume and offer you the chance to share more about your background, skills, and expertise. A cover letter can also help the recruiter or hiring manager understand why you are applying for the specific job at their company - and most importantly why they should interview/hire you over other candidates.

It is also an opportunity to showcase your work from home (WFH) relevant experience. Regardless of whether you have WFH experience, you can use your cover letter to distinguish yourself from other candidates by highlighting the soft skills that remote hiring managers or recruiters value. For example, you need to be self-motivated, have strong time management skills, writing abilities, and know how to communicate asynchronously.
