Women don't want to return to 'the office' π ββοΈ
According to the latest data from LeanIn.org and McKinsey & Company, which started tracking these statistics in 2015, women are leaving companies at the highest recorded rate ever, and the gap between women and men in senior roles quitting their jobs is the widest of all times.
Due to companies' "business as usual" approach, including more office hours, neglecting employee mental health, and ignoring diversity, equity, and inclusion, female leaders are losing patience and quitting. In the past few years, these women have been able to see what can be accomplished when companies put their all into something, whether it's more flexible work arrangements or doubling down on equitable hiring β so they're not going to let up.
"Let's be clear: Women aren't saying they don't want to work," Lareina Yee, a senior partner at McKinsey & Company, tells CNBC Make It. "They're breaking up with companies because they're confident they will get an opportunity to advance somewhere else, which is something we haven't seen before β¦ it really speaks to the fact that loyalty has its limits."
There is evidence that women who work remotely at least part-time, especially women of colour and those with disabilities, experience fewer microaggressions and are more psychologically safe. Flexibility can contribute to gender parity! How awesome is that?
According to Rachel Thomas, the co-founder and CEO of LeanIn.org, "Women are highly ambitious". She continues: "They want to work for organisations that remain committed to the things they value and are driving positive change. (...)The companies that get these things right will get the very best out of having so many women at the top of their organisation β better collaboration, more diverse problem solving, the list goes on β and driving their companies into the future."
