How to get a 100% Remote Job
Do you want to get a remote job? Getting started can seem overwhelming, but if you follow these steps, you'll be well prepared and ready to interview with a remote-first company…
Fix your mindset
If you think that your lack of a degree or experience is holding you back, it isn’t- it's your mindset. There are entry-level jobs out there and a lot do not require you to have a degree. Rather than focusing on what you don’t have, focus on the things you do have- what makes you unique? What can you offer a remote-first company?
2. Define the type of job you want to do remotely
The first step to finding a remote job is knowing what you want. If you're just starting, this can be hard. Maybe you've never worked remotely, or maybe you've worked from home before but not with a remote-first company. Maybe you're looking for something that gives you more flexibility or more time at home than your current job.
Whatever your situation, make sure you start by defining what type of remote job is perfect for your lifestyle and needs.
3. Be more visible online
You don't need to be a social media influencer to get a remote job, but it really helps to have a consistent presence on social media. Make sure your accounts are updated with recent photos and content.
That means, for example, updating and cleaning up your LinkedIn profile, adding followers, joining groups, and posting often.
4. Apply for remote jobs
Once you have completed the steps above, it's now time to reach out to remote-first companies and recruiters! Make sure that your CV and cover letter are up-to-date and that they demonstrate exactly what the company is looking for.
Send off a few applications and be patient! It can take time for companies to review your CV, so don't worry if it takes longer than expected.
